Size process and utility lines from mass flow and density: API RP 14E erosional velocity Ve=1.22·C/sqrt(rho), recommended service-velocity bands (pump suction/discharge, gas, steam, two-phase), the rho-v-squared momentum index, and the smallest standard DN that keeps velocity in range.
Inputs
| Parameter | Notes |
|---|---|
| Mass flow W (kg/h) | Operating mass flow |
| Density (kg/m3) | At flowing conditions |
| Service type | Sets the recommended velocity band |
| API 14E C-factor | 100 continuous / 125 intermittent |
| Existing ID (optional) | Rates an existing line |
Outputs
| Output | Basis |
|---|---|
| Erosional velocity Ve | API RP 14E, 1.22·C/sqrt(rho) |
| Recommended velocity & ID | Service band, capped below Ve |
| Recommended DN | Smallest standard size |
| rho-v-squared & % of Ve | Erosion/vibration screen |
Standards & Method
Erosional velocity per API RP 14E (SI form Ve=1.22·C/sqrt(rho)). Practical velocity bands: pump suction 0.6-1.5, discharge 1.5-3, gas/vapor 15-30, steam 20-40 m/s; rho-v-squared guideline below 5000 single-phase / review above 10000. A reducer/expander K=f(beta,angle) helper (Crane TP-410) is built in.
